INITIAL IDEAS

As an improvement for our initial idea of a broken or long distance relationship, we decided to base the narrative on a boyfriend of one of the members of the band who goes to war. The reason we think this is due to the shots of the male walking away into the distance wearing an army jacket. The video will begin with the girl writing letters for her lover who is at war, establishing the basis of the song. Throughout the writing of the letter we decided to have flashbacks of the girl and boy spending their time together. It is almost as if the letter is telling the story of the couples time together. The end may also be left on a cliffhanger with the letter being finished and signed and the idea of not knowing whether the boyfriend gets back from war. The narrative of the video will be based mainly around one member of the band which is a challenge to the typical conventions as each member of a pop band usually have an important featuring role. However, we will find it more appropriate to base the story in depth around one girl and her boyfriend. This allows all of the band members to have an important feature in the performance section whereas one girl will have the whole of the narrative section and her parts in the song 'Dear Lover' for the performance section.
