AUDIENCE QUESTIONNAIRE

We designed a questionnaire to get audience feedback on what they think is best for a pop music video and to show the general conventions.

In question one, we asked 'Which type of music video would you expect a pop music video to be?' From the results from the audience, we can see that it is a joint vote between all three of the different types. This was useful for us as it gave us a better idea of what types to include in our actual music video. We ended up including both performance and narrative in our music video because from other research of pop music videos that we did, we saw these two types were most common.

In question 2, we asked 'Where do you think the most appropriate place to film a pop music video would be?' From the results we found that the most voted places from the audience were 'In A House', 'Nightclubs' and 'City Centre'. This was useful to us as we did end up filming in a house for some parts of our music video however the rest of our music video was filmed in rural areas such as fields. We did this because, as our music video was about a relationship breakup, we thought this helped make it more emotional than filming in a nightclub and therefore showed the narrative more so the audience could understand.

In question 3, we asked 'Which gender do you think is most likely to listen to pop songs?'. 'Females' and 'Both' got the most votes from the audience which was useful for us as it made it more clear who our target audience would be. However, as our music video includes a girl band, we aimed it more towards females as they usually look up to girl bands as role models so are most likely to listen to their songs.

In question 4, we asked 'Which gender do you think is most likely to watch the music video of a pop song?' Again, the most voted results were 'Females' and 'Both'. This was not that useful for us as we knew our band was a girl band and so we assumed that generally it would be females watching our music video, this question just gave us reassurance and more opinions.

In question 5, we asked 'Which age group do you think is most likely to listen to pop songs?' From our results, there was a clear most voted answer which was 10-18. This was useful to us as this was our target audience anyway and so this gave us more reassurance. This also allowed us to adapt our music video to more of a suited age group and keep our music video PG due to the age group.

In question 6, we asked the audience which name they thought was the best for a pop girl band. From the results, 'Queens of Heart' and 'Four of Hearts' got the most votes. This was useful to us as it helped us decide on the actual name of our girl band - our girl band is called 'Four Hearts'. We changed it to 'Four Hearts' because we thought this sounded more like an appropriate name for a girl band whereas 'Four of Hearts' sounded more like a card game to us. However, overall we went off of the audience's opinion.

In question 7, we asked 'What do you think is the most appropriate storyline for a pop music video?' The most popular vote from the audience was 'A Relationship Breakup' and this was what we based our whole music video of. The narrative part of the music video showed this more and the performance sections showed the band comforting their friend over a her breakup. This question was useful to us as it helped us decide what to base our music video off of as we had other options as well which were long distance relationship and a girl missing her boyfriend.

In question 8, we asked 'What colours do you think are most commonly seen in pop music videos?' The most voted answer was 'Bright Colours' and this was useful to us because it helped us to decide on what outfits the people in our music video should wear. We ended up deciding on the band members all wearing pink as this was a bright, girly colour and brought all of the band members together so they actually looked like a group. Although the music video was about a relationship breakup, we still used bright colours to show how the band comforted their friend and it was a pop video which are generally happy and bright colours typically represent this.
